Uber Invests $100M in EV Fast Charging to Power Robotaxi Expansion

Uber plans to install high-capacity DC fast chargers at its autonomous vehicle depots, where fleets are stored, cleaned, inspected, and maintained. These hubs will also include strategically located “pit stop” charging sites in high-traffic corridors to keep vehicles on the road longer and maximize utilization.

The company already manages robotaxi operations in cities like Austin and Atlanta through its partnership with Waymo, and internationally in markets such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Riyadh via China-based WeRide. They expect autonomous rides to be available in at least 10 cities by the end of 2026.

Tesla Secures FCC Waiver for Cybercab Wireless Charging System

The Federal Communications Commission has officially cleared a major regulatory hurdle for Tesla, granting the automaker a waiver that allows it to deploy Ultra-Wideband (UWB) radio technology in its upcoming wireless EV charging system—technology expected to debut with the Cybercab.

Central to the FCC’s approval is Tesla’s precision positioning system, which relies on impulse-based UWB radio signals to guide a vehicle into the exact position required over a ground pad before wireless charging can begin.
