Tesla Shares Battery Tips: Don’t Supercharge Regularly, Charge to 80%, and More

While much of the advice aligns with long-standing community wisdom, Tesla has included a notably direct recommendation: avoid using Superchargers as your primary way to juice up. The manual now explicitly suggests that owners "save Supercharging for road trips or long drives" and instead prioritize Level 1 or Level 2 charging for daily use.

Tesla’s updated guidance emphasizes that the number of charge cycles and how long the battery stays at low or high states of charge play one of the biggest roles in its longevity. Here are the primary strategies Tesla recommends for maximizing battery health.

BYD Appears To Be Rolling Out A New, Even More Powerful Generation Of Megawatt Chargers

Last year, Chinese automotive giant BYD revealed cars that can accept a full megawatt of charging– 250 miles of range in just 5 minutes. And now, it looks like the automaker is rolling out a new generation of super-fast charging units.

Photos of the chargers’ information plates taken by Chinese bloggers indicate that at least some of the new units are able to dispense 1,500 kilowatts, or 1.5 megawatts.

Jim Farley, Ford's CEO, on Realizing He's Been Doing EVs Wrong After Ripping Apart a Tesla

Ford CEO Jim Farley, in a new interview, says he realized Ford had been doing EVs all wrong after his team ripped apart a Tesla:

“When we ripped apart a Tesla, I was just absolutely flabbergasted. The Mach-E's wiring harness was 70 pounds heavier and 1.6 kilometers longer. We didn't know what was going on in [Tesla engineers' ] minds. But now we understand. They had no prejudice. We had prejudice. We'd gone to our supply-chain person and said, "Buy another wiring harness." [Tesla] said, "Let's design the vehicle for the lowest, smallest battery." Totally different approach.”
